Clover Health International embarked on its journey when a group of medical professionals and skilled technicians came together with a shared passion for bringing healthcare to underserved areas. Our mission is simple: “to deliver medical care to hard-to-reach and underserved communities.” We work as a team, with a vision that even small efforts can make a big impact. In Japanese, we have a saying “if every grain of rice is piled up, a mountain is formed”. Although we are not a large organization, we use our expertise and strong partnerships with our local counterparts to fulfill this profound mission.

We particularly focus on a group of “neglected tropical diseases (NTDs)”, which are often not life-threatening. However, it is a group of diseases that can cause prolonged suffering and deprive individuals of social participation due to long-term treatment or stigma and discrimination arising from visible changes in appearance. Many patients affected by NTDs reside in remote communities, especially in low- and middle-income countries. resulting from changes in appearance, and plagues people for the rest of their lives. Even in developing countries, they live in remote areas. The “voices” of patients living in such environments often struggle to reach us. Another mission of ours is to deliver their “voices”.

Furthermore, high-income countries such as Japan also are not free of NTDs. With globalization, we are experiencing both import and export of these infectious diseases. It is not solely a problem of other far away countries. We engage in raising awareness about NTDs.  

Instead of giving up with an “it can’t be done” attitude, we seek to understand “why” it cannot be done and find ways to make it possible. Clover Health International carries out its activities while cherishing this mindset.
